Music in the Park | Live in Bellwoods, Toronto

Live in Bellwoods | June 19, 2010

By far, ‘Live in Bellwoods’ was the highlight of this year’s NXNE festival.

Yes, seeing legendary bands like Mudhoney, X, De La Soul and Iggy Pop were definite highlights, and enjoying a surprise show by one of my new favourite bands Zeus was fantastic, but this free music event was special.

It was a perfect combination of beautiful weather, acoustic music and the relaxed, laid-back atmosphere that made for a great day, along with wine and good company. It was also a nice way for music lovers to hear artists play a free set. The four day music festival is fantastic but makes it difficult for anyone to see all of the bands they want to see. Here, you get to hear them in an acoustic setting and for free.

The ones I enjoyed was US Royalty, (pictured above) who did a beautiful cover of Roy Orbison’s ‘Anything You Want’. Another good band from Iceland called Svavar Knutur, decided to forgo standing in front of an audience and played in a tree.

Let’s hope these music series in one of the city’s beautiful parks will become a new tradition.
