At work: Ashley Winnington-Ball

For a long time, I’ve been interested in how artists work. Not only I do love their finished product but I’ve always been curious as to how they got there: What’s their workflow like? How does their work space look like? What do they do to get themselves into the creative mood?
But an artist’s work process can be a private one. This is their opportunity to ‘let go’, be themselves so that they can create freely and having someone document the moment can be invasive. As someone who appreciates art and who is an artist, I searched until I found someone who allowed me into their workspace. Enter my friend, Ashley Winnington-Ball.
Ashley’s a jewelry designer who takes found objects and recycles them into lovely designs that you would be proud to wear. Rusted items such as keys, nails, and wire, are coated in resin and are pieced together to become necklaces, bracelets and rings. With Billie Holliday playing in the background, our glasses filled with red wine, she created beauty as I photographed the process.
I had fun documenting this moment and would love to repeat it. If any artist is interested in having their creative workflow photographed, please send me an e-mail.
