Self-portrait, embroidery on card stock (2013)
Every year, OCAD organizes an art exhibit for first-year students where each student is encouraged to submit a self-portrait. It’s a fun way to introduce yourself and to see how others portray themselves. These works are exhibited at the face2face postcard project.
So, this is me (in case you didn’t know how I looked like). Instead of drawing or painting or adding a photo of myself, I choose to embroider a picture of me. I feel this is the best representation of me as I’m doing more embroidery work now. And today was my first day at OCAD and I’m super excited for what lays ahead but also freaking nervous.
I’ve spent my evening reading over my syllabus for my classes, and I’m wondering if I will be able to complete the work that’s being asked of us. I know that the teacher will explain everything once we start our classes. I can’t help but want to stay ahead of the course and start thinking about my upcoming projects. For now I have to wait and see what happens, and just jump in.
